The key to combatting 'nature-deficit disorder', according to Last Child in the Woods author Richard Louv, is giving children unstructured time in nature.  In exploring, bonding, and letting their imagination meet the richness of the natural setting, kids develop a relationship with the wild that protects them against stress while enhancing their focus and creativity.  "Camp Keely" is a week-long summer camp designed to offer this unstructured time, paired with fun science projects, crafts, and activities, all designed to spark children's sense of adventure and inner wildness, to pique their imagination, and to deepen their understanding of natural history.

Each week I pick a theme: the theme of Week 1 will be the elements.  Earth, air, water, fire, and on the fifth day: life!  Fun activities such as single-rope climbing, playing with dry ice, and having a mud fight will enhance their primal experience of these basic elements, as we explore the creek and woods near my home.

Kids should come equipped for the weather, for walking in the woods OR the creek (ie, bring boots), and for swimming or sprinkler activities.  Please pack a bag lunch and a water bottle.  For further details, refer to the attached flyer, contact me, or fill out the form below to request information.
